Deputy Inspector General of Investigations

THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF PHILADELPHIA

At the direction of the Inspector General, the Deputy Inspector General will oversee the OIG’s Investigations Unit. The Deputy Inspector General will develop and implement internal standards and case management procedures, guide investigative activity, evaluate and edit written work product developed in connection with case related investigations, and provide overall direction to the division.  The Deputy Inspector General of Investigations will also work closely with the Deputy Inspector General of Auditing to coordinate activities and address systematic issues.


Essential Functions
  • Oversees the development and implementation of work standards, policies and internal procedures for conducting investigations.
  • Supervises all aspects of the investigative process, including:  complaint intake, subject and witness interviews, document review, written work product, and case management. 
  • Serves as the policy development and management official of the Investigative Division of the OIG.
  • Plans, directs and oversees, through subordinate staff, all aspects of the District’s Investigative program as approved by the Inspector General; develops an investigative process and departmental priorities; oversees and monitors the allocation of departmental resources. 
  • Participates in the day-to-day case activities; prepares and maintains necessary records and reports.
  • Communicates with the Inspector General on a regular basis on the status of internal controls, risk management, and governance within the school system.
  • Serves as the liaison between the District and federal, state and local government law authorities.

Selection Process
Selected candidates will participate in an interview process.  Please note that not all qualified candidates may be selected for an interview. The selected candidate must have no anecdotal record on file and have not been subject to any disciplinary action within the past eighteen (18) months, and have an excellent record of attendance and punctuality during the last three (3) years (defined as no more than eighteen (18) occasions of lateness or absence for personal illness in the last three years (3) years with the exception of one extended long-term absence).
