Job Description

Title:    School Climate Coordinator  

Department:   Student Support Services

Reports To:   School Principal

Salary: (10 month)   Minimum-$41,274    Maximum-$58,951


Job Summary

Works with school staff to ensure a school climate that is conductive to learning.  Works collaboratively with school staff, including the counselor(s), psychologist, nurse, and additional social service programs housed in the building to establish a collaborative, multidisciplinary resource team that effectively supports a student’s social and emotional needs.  Ensures the provision of targeted supportive services to student populations placed at risk.


Essential Functions

·   Serves as a member of a school based team that addresses student behavior and appropriate interventions.

·   Provides administrative and teacher consultation on best practices related to student behavior and interventions in school settings.

·   Supports effective resource coordination and utilization at the school level.

·   Supports appropriate data collection and compliance with record keeping.

·   Performs follow-up casework with students and helps parents follow through with outside social service agencies.

·   Provides targeted group counseling for identified students (i.e. grief/loss, anger management, self-esteem, problem solving).

·   Provides emergency response consultation and follow up.

·   Monitors student behavior during unstructured times. 

 

Minimum Requirements

·   Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in social work,

·   Three years of full-time, paid, professional experience in behavioral health, with experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Demonstrated knowledge of:

?    the principles, practices and techniques of advocacy, behavioral health, counseling, or social work.

?  the current social, educational and economic issues as they relate to urban families.

?    or familiarity with, student support protocols that ensure compliance with state mandates.

·         The functions and resources of public and private social service agencies

 

·  Ability to:

?   work with families in crisis.

o   access and coordinate community resources.

o   learn policies and procedures related to regular education, special education, behavioral health, student discipline, attendance, and truancy.

o   exercise discretion and tact in dealing with sensitive situations.

o   maintain necessary records and files, and compile information in report form.

o   process multiple tasks simultaneously and adhere to timelines.

o   understand and follow verbal and/or written directions.

o   organize and execute trainings, meetings and professional development forums

o   interact with staff, students, parents, and community based agencies.

o   use and operate a personal computer.

o   use word processing software and spreadsheets.

o   express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.

o   establish and maintain effective working relationship

Selection Process

 

Selected candidates will participate in an interview process.  Please note that not all qualified candidates may be selected for an interview.  The selected candidate must have no anecdotal record on file and have not been subject to any disciplinary action within the past eighteen (18) months, and have an excellent record of attendance and punctuality during the last three (3) years (defined as no more than eighteen (18) occasions of lateness or absence for personal illness in the last three years (3) years with the exception of one extended long-term absence).
