Job Description
Job Summary:
Analyzes, test, adjust, and repair automatic oil and gas-fired boiler controls. Checks readings on meters and gauges, and adjusting equipment controls in order to verify readings under specified operating conditions. Records and analyzes equipment temperature, hours of operation, fuel consumption and temperature to diagnose equipment malfunctions.  

Essential Functions:
  • Repairs, installs, and maintains gas and oil burners and controls, tanks, pressure vessels, and related industrial and residential equipment gauges and valves, including pressure, sequential, boiler, lead-lag and safety valves and gauges.
  • Checks reading on meters and gauges; adjusts equipment controls in order to verify readings under specified operating conditions; records data such as equipment temperature, hours of operation, fuel consumption, and temperature in diagnosing equipment malfunctions; performs fuel analyses in diagnosing  equipment malfunctions.
  • Tests, adjusts, installs, and repairs equipment following blueprints, schematic drawings, and verbal or written instructions.
  • Prepares project time and materials estimates.
  • Oversees the work of trades trainees and helpers.   
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated knowledge of:
  • The methods, materials and tools of the automatic plant trade
  • The occupational hazards and safety precautions of the automatic plant trade
  • The theory and principles of the operation of heating and cooling systems
  • The operation of the electronic controls and motors associated with the operation of heating and cooling systems
Demonstrated ability to:
  • Diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions
  • Interpret and work from blueprints, schematic drawings, and specifications
  • Accurately follow oral and written instructions
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors and associates
Minimum Requirements: 
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Three years of experience learning the automatic plant trade as an apprentice.

Certificates/Licenses:
Possession of a proper class license valid to operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of appointment.
