Job Description
SUMMARY: Responsible for repairing, servicing, upgrading, installing and maintaining Macintosh and PC computers and peripherals; performing basic server installation and maintenance; assisting with planning, installing and implementing District networks for both Apple and Microsoft platforms; providing technical support to users; training users on operation of hardware and software; and maintaining Macintosh and PC technician shop inventory.

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
? High school diploma or equivalent.
? Courses in A Plus or Cisco or comparable courses.
? Associate?s degree in computer science or related field. Additional relevant experience may be substituted for this educational requirement.
? More than three years of experience as a PC or Macintosh service technician.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:
? Criminal background check required for hire.
? Apple Technician Certification.

TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
? Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
? Ability to interpret and convey technical information to a non-technical audience.
? Ability to perform all job functions of Computer Technician.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:
? Strong operating knowledge of and experience with Macintosh and PC personal computers and peripherals.
? Operating knowledge of network test and diagnostic equipment and software, productivity and educational software, related parts, electronic tools and specialized Macintosh repair tools and service equipment.
? Knowledge of and ability to add/change users and home directories and to add/change network printers.
? PC: Strong knowledge of and ability to perform remote access of servers; to run backup and program backup; and to replace, install and troubleshoot server tape backup units. Knowledge of and ability to manipulate switches/hubs and infrastructure. Knowledge and basic management of login scripts.
? Mac: Strong knowledge of and ability to install and configure a Mac OS X server and to setup, configure and troubleshoot NT4/Windows 2000, Appletalk services and volumes. Strong knowledge of tape backup system setup and maintenance. Basic knowledge and manipulation of switches/hubs.

BUDGET AND/OR RESOURCE RESPONSIBILITY:
? Initiate requisition orders and maintain supplies, inventory and equipment for Macintosh and PC technician shop area.

Supplemental Role Description


This description is to provide additional details for applicant of this position as there are funding and situational aspects not represented in the job description.  This additional information should be taken into account as potential applications consider the position.


  • This position is funded through June 30, 2020.

  • The position is focused on supporting the existing Senior Technical Support Analyst in hardware repairs of district chromebooks, laptops and desktops.  

  • The focus of repairs for this particular temporary position is limited to Chromebooks. 

  • The job requires travel between schools to pick up and drop off equipment using a personal or District owned vehicle at the District's discretion. The employee will be reimbursed for mileage if using a personal vehicle.

  • This position will likely have other duties such as technology support to district customers over the phone, augmenting the IT Service Desk team during peak demand.  Therefore the successful applicant will need to demonstrate experience/ability in this area.

SALARY INFORMATION: 

Salary placement on our Classified Salary schedule is dependent on the Grade for the position being posted and employees’ previous work experience. “Grade” refers to position or job classification and “Step” refers to number of work experience credit or service years. Initial placement will be at the Grade for the position step 1. 

 

BENEFITS INFORMATION: 

Employees regularly scheduled to work twenty (20) hours per week or more are eligible to receive the district contribution towards insurance benefits as defined in the Classified Master Agreement Article 11.3, 11.4, and 11.5 and are eligible for benefits described within this article. Employees regularly scheduled to work less than twenty (20) hours per week, or employees whose employment is temporary, are not eligible for benefits described within this article.  Please refer to the Classified Master Agreement for more information.
