Position Goal:

The Director of Curriculum and Assessment will work with the Assistant Superintendent to provide positive, collaborative leadership for improvement of student learning in the areas of curriculum and assessment through regular curriculum material adoptions coupled with professional development focused on increasing the instructional and assessment capacity of staff.  The Director will do so through:

  • Developing a system providing equitable access to regularly adopted rigorous materials,
  • Providing a system based on results-focused professional learning and collaboration, Investing in our people so they continuously fine tune their craft and grow in their profession,
  • Strengthening partnerships with teachers, staff, families and community, and
  • Striving to be a culturally responsive organization, our diversity is a strength and an asset, committed to equity, excellent service for all, and continuous improvement.

 

Primary Performance Duties and Responsibilities Instructional Leadership:

The primary responsibility of the Director is the daily improvement of classroom instruction that results in high levels of student academic performance. The Director is responsible for all aspects of the district instructional program related to curriculum materials, instructional capacity and assessment to achieve high standards for student academic performance and to do so with a high level of integrity.  

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Washington State Administrator certificate
  • Valid Washington State Teaching certificate
  • Experience as a principal or assistant principal preferred
  • Washington State driver’s license or evidence of mobility
  • Experience and/or training with cultural, ethnic, and language diversity preferred

 

Desired Skills:  

  • Demonstrated instructional leadership roles that resulted in improved student learning
  • Demonstrated excellence as a teacher of adults, professional developer, instructional coach or curriculum director
  • Demonstrated skills in planning and organizing professional development with strategies used in the context of adult learning
  • Ability to use and present student assessment data with building instructional staff to improve practice, strategies and results
  • Knowledge of best practices in in formative and summative assessment to inform instruction
  • Knowledge of state assessments and timelines associated with completion of annual requirements
  • Ability to manage budgets and supervise staff
  • Highly effective oral and written communications
  • Ability to listen to and partner with students, staff, and community members from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds and view decisions through an equity lens

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work with others to create a shared vision of instructional excellence; develop the partnerships, resources, and capacities to make the vision a reality
  • Identify best practices in implementing curriculum for students; learn, teach, model, coach, and do whatever it takes to build capacity of instructional staff and implement curriculum materials with fidelity
  • Lead the process to adopt rigorous curriculum materials that support principals, teachers, and students in achieving state standards
  • Partner with schools to obtain, analyze, and apply diagnostic assessment data; design action research, program evaluation and formative feedback that leads to continuous improvement
  • Coordinate and implement district and state student assessment programs
  • Collaborate with district and school staff to develop School Improvement Plans informed by student achievement data
  • Produce summary reports of assessment data for presentation to staff, Board, and other audiences as requested or when appropriate
  • Represent the district at relevant state and regional curriculum and assessment and/or accountability-related meetings and professional organizations
  • Manage resources to meet legal requirements and equitable access to quality curriculum and instruction 
  • Professionally interact with students, staff, and public
  • Comply with all district policies and procedures
  • Comply with the Code of Professional Conduct
  • Perform other related duties and assume other related responsibilities as may be assigned
