Job Description
The Syracuse City School District is undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the goal of ensuring that all students graduate high school with the skills needed to be ready for college and career. For Syracuse, all means all – including students who fall behind or have been considered “hard to serve” for a host of reasons. The School Board and Syracuse community have charged Interim Superintendent Jaime Alicea with improving student achievement, and he is seeking a dedicated team of school leaders and teachers to partner with him in moving the district toward its goals. The Syracuse City School District represents 34 schools and 4 alternative education programs, serving 21,000+ students Pre-K-12 of whom 77% qualify for free or reduced price lunch, 18% are served by the Office of Special Education and 78% are students of color.

The Syracuse City School District is looking to ensure that our faculty better represents the diversity of our student body. We are looking for graduates with a background in and commitment to urban education in the following teaching areas:
Mathematics
Science
English as a New Language (ENL)
Library Media 
Special Education
Technology
Elementary
Other areas considered
In exchange for a 5-year commitment to teach in the Syracuse City School District, you will receive:
Full tuition toward a Master’s Degree in Education at Syracuse University
Starting salary of $47,500 
Additional pay for experience 
Opportunity to earn additional $5,480 by working in extended learning time school
Assistance with New York State Teacher Certification Process 
Includes stipend to assist with expense for certification

FELLOWSHIP REQUIREMENTS:
Must be ready to teach in September 2016
Must reside in the city of Syracuse (A generous moving allowance of $1,500 and non-financial housing support is included)
Must be prepared to teach for a minimum of 5 years in the Syracuse City School District
You will be expected to teach in September 2016, therefore you must already have completed a teacher preparation program prior to September 2016.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Reporting to the principal, the teacher ensures that all of their students achieve ambitious academic outcomes.  The teacher must effectively:
Plan data-driven, standards-aligned and differentiated units, lessons and activities
Deliver clear, accurate and rigorous lessons with a range of instructional and formative assessment techniques
Establish and maintain a supportive, productive and positive learning environment with strong classroom management practices
Monitor and communicate about student progress while engaging in continuous reflection, adjustment and professional development

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
All candidates must possess New York State teacher certification in their subject area, or qualify to obtain it.  This requires a Bachelor’s degree.  Candidates certified from other states may qualify for reciprocity.
