Job Description
Collaborates with parents, guardians and surrogate parents of children to coordinate the delivery of a comprehensive system that supports the educational process. Coordinates activities to assist parents in understanding and navigating their way through the education process. Provides guidance and direction to all parents, including bilingual and non-English, as they address the educational needs of their children. Establishes and maintains linkages and partnerships with external organizations, governmental agencies and other stakeholders.

Essential Functions


Minimum Requirements


  • Three years of full-time, paid, professional experience in an educational or social services setting which have involved working with parents and children on issues related to Title I parental engagement.

 

                      OR

 

  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Talent and Development.

  • articulate federal and state laws pertaining to parental engagement.
  • convey information on community organizations, resources and public services available for families and children.
  • act in a professional manner and maintain a professional attitude towards the public and colleagues.
  • provide exemplary customer service at all times.
  • work with students, parents, coworkers and the public from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • ensure that sensitive student and parent information remains confidential.
  • develop and schedule training sessions on various topics.
  • participate in appropriate training, workshops and staff development activities and apply what is learned on the job.
  • accept new challenges and develop best practices.  
  • attain effective results, complete assignments in a timely manner and work with minimal supervision.
  • use the computer applications including Excel, Power Point, and Microsoft Word.
  • maintain records and prepare reports.
  • operate a personal computer.
  • express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships.
    
Selection Process
Interviews may be conducted to determine how well a candidate meets the established criteria.  Note that not all qualified candidates may be selected for an interview. The selected candidate must have no anecdotal record on file and have not been subject to any disciplinary action within the past eighteen (18) months, and have an excellent record of attendance and punctuality during the last three (3) years (defined as no more than eighteen (18) occasions of lateness or absence for personal illness in the last three years (3) years with the exception of one extended long-term absence).
